Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara said Wednesday his country is "fully ready for practical and tangible cooperation" with the Iraqi government in establishing security at the lengthy borders of the two neighbouring Arab states.
Speaking at an international conference on Iraq in Brussels, Shara said the side that is criticising Syria for not securing its border in a better way is the one preventing Syria from succeeding in doing it.
His comments were apparently directed at US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who earlier said, "Iraq's neighbours, Syria in particular, must secure their borders from those who seek to destroy Iraq's progress."
Shara noted that the security and stability of Iraq because of history and neighbourhood is linked with the security and stability of Syria.
He added that Syria's security is threatened by the Israeli occupation of the Golan and other Arab lands and the Israeli violation of UN resolutions.
