
Iraq: UN envoy meets with Prime Minister to discuss constitutional process
14 June 2005 – The senior United Nations envoy in Iraq and Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari met today to discuss the ongoing constitution-making process in the country, including the participation of groups from outside the Transitional National Assembly.
Ashraf Qazi, the Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, also briefed the Prime Minister on the UN Mission's (UNAMI) preparations for the Brussels International Conference on Iraq, the statement also said.
Over the weekend, the UN envoy met with former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi. Mr. Qazi has been holding wide-ranging talks in Iraq in recent days about the ongoing political process and the risk of political fragmentation as the country heads towards the 15 August deadline for drafting its final constitution.
