“We should stand united to build new Iraq ”- Al-Adalah
Al-Adalah[ Baghdad , twice-weekly newspaper in Arabic published by the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)] 6 June: [From commentary by Ali Khlif]
"All that is happening in Iraq is against the political process. Therefore, all should stand united to build the new Iraq . The stage has given its dues and said its word and will say it in the future. It is impossible to think of turning the clock backward or returning to the unfair equation imposed for long decades. Iraq has opened a new chapter. Thus, all should write an honourable line to start building our new Iraq "
"Dialogue, all groups involved in the political process”- Al-Mada
[ Baghdad , daily, independent newspaper published by Al-Mada Media, Culture and Arts Corporation] 6 June: [From commentary]
"Dialogue is more possible. It has already taken place. Experts in Iraqi affairs have long noted that military operations alone cannot establish security and stability. Focus should be put on getting all sects and groups involved in the political process, allocating enough funds to reconstruct the country that have seen two wars, sanctions and occupation and on creating job opportunities. They believe these three points hold the key to draining the support gunmen receive. Today, the government endeavours to open a dialogue with 'opposition' parties having weight in 'insurgency' It is a call for them to contribute to drafting their constitution, the constitution of all Iraqis. However, such call excludes groups linked to Al-Zarqawi who is held accountable for the victims of car bombings, kidnappings and assassinations”
Iraqi press comments 6 June
Al-Mu'tamar publishes on page 6 a 400-word article by Dr Khalid Yunis Khalid discussing national security strategy in Iraq . The writer warns against sectarianism because it leads to division. The writer believes that federalism is not the ultimate goal of the Kurdish people because without democracy, federalism cannot ensure security and stability in the Kurdistan region. The writer urges all international forces, regardless of their ideology, to help the Iraqi people to prevent the Iraqi forces who believe in violence from seizing power in the country.
Al-Mu'tamar publishes on page 6 a 1,200-word article by Hamzah al-Jawahiri saying that though it is fair that the majority forms the government, it is not fair that the majority drafts the constitution. The writer believes that all Iraqi segments, regardless of their representation in the government, should be equally represented in the Constitutional Committee, else it would violate the very first article in the constitution that says "all people are equals in the eyes of the law."
Al-Mada publishes on page 7 a 1,000-word article by the newspaper's chief editor emphasizing the importance of national dialogue and reconciliation among all Iraqi segments in order for Iraq to restore stability and security. The writer says that dialogue is can only be carried out by two or more parties that identify themselves and not with "a mysterious party." The writer adds that the current Iraqi opposition comprises a number of parties that vary in their ideologies and goals.
Al-Furat publishes on the back page a 500-word column by Jabir Muhammad Jabir questioning the aim behind the organization of regional and international conferences on Iraq that is being promoted by the US .
Al-Adalah carries on page 4 a 1,000-word article by Amir Tahiri discussing the efforts exerted by the Iraqi security forces to eliminate "terrorism." The writer believes that terrorists will be defeated "inevitably."
Al-Sabah al-Jadid runs on page 1 a 250-word editorial commenting on the "historical victory" achieved by the Kurdistan political groups in forming the Kurdistan Government. The writer calls on all Iraqis to "seize the opportunity" to draft the new constitution that will "guarantee people's rights and regulate the political process."
Al-Mashriq runs on page 1 a 250-word article by Dr Hamid Abdallah criticizing the division of Iraqi politicians into "inside strugglers," who "suffered the cruelty of tyranny and oppression," and "liberators," who have been living in "ivory towers." The writer says that the struggle between these two groups is insignificant because Iraq is under "the stronghold of neighboring countries and occupation."
Al-Dustur carries on page 1 a 250-word editorial by Chief Editor Basim al-Shaykh commenting on the "serious efforts" exerted by the Constitutional Committee to complete the new Iraqi constitution as scheduled. The author says that this task requires "deep insight, wisdom, and self-denial."
Al-Bayan carries on page 4 a 250-word article by Zaynab al-Khafaji commenting on Iran 's stance towards the security situation in Iraq and the international conference that will be held soon to discuss the future of Iraq with neighboring countries.
Al-Zaman publishes on page 8 a 400-word article by Muthanna al-Tabaqchali calling on the government to involve the Arab Sunnis in the committee for drafting the constitution in order to build a strong Iraq .
