Iraq's Allawi calls for expansion of ties with Iran

Head of Iraqi National Accord (INA), Iyad Allawi, here Tuesday called for formulating ties between his country and Iran on the basis of mutual respect.

"We hope ties (with Iran) will be expanded. We want the ties are based on common interests, mutual respect, and non-intervention in the each other's internal affairs.

"We seek constructive relations with Iran. We want the two sides respect each other's features. This is the main condition Iraq sets for establishing ties with all regional states."
The former premier, who arrived at the Syrian capital city Damascus Tuesday night, met President Bashar al-Assad and senior Syrian officials.

Allawi called on Iraq's neighboring states to help establish security in his country and the region.
