President Mohammad Khatami here Thursday said that the war in Iraq mainly accounts for promotion of terrorism and expansionism in the world.
A report broadcast on the French television TV5 on Thursday quoting Khatami said that occupation of Iraq initially aimed to eradicate terrorism and dictatorship in the country.
"However, unfortunately what is going on in Iraq has turned the country into a center of extremist terrorist movements and arrogance," added the report.
In an interview with the French TV5 during his recent visit to Paris, the chief executive referred to Iraq's future and urged that the international community should act with full authority to return stability to Iraq after the withdrawal of foreign troops.
Turning to the disappearance of the French female journalist and her Iraqi translator, he noted that Iran condemns all kinds of kidnappings, in particular, when such measures take place in the name of Islam.
"Iraq has turned into a center of terrorist activities and the terrorists aim to revenge the Iraqi people and the occupiers of the country," added the president.
President Khatami heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Paris on Monday afternoon on a two-day visit to attend the Conference on Dialogue Among Civilizations held at the UNESCO center in the French capital, where he delivered a speech.
