Iran has no cooperation with US on Iraq: Asefi
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi here Tuesday denied any cooperation between Iran and the United States on Iraq. "The Islamic Republic of Iran has had no overt or covert cooperation with the United States. We have employed our potentials and capabilities to establish stability and security in Iraq," Asefi told reporters. He said the recent remarks by Iran`s ambassador to Britain on Iran-US cooperation on Iraq have been misquoted. Certain foreign media quoted Iran`s Ambassador to London Mohammad Hossein Adeli as saying Iran and the United States have had cooperation on Iraq. He also noted that Iran and the United States have different stances regarding the Middle East, saying, "The United States seeks to strengthen the Zionist regime which is a blatant symbol of state terrorism while Iran regards this regime as the source of threat, instability and terror in the region." "We had been in contact with the Iraqi government and all Iraqi groups to reduce the ongoing difficulties and find ways to settle the crises. "Withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq was among the principled stances of the Islamic Republic since the outset of the crises," the spokesman stated. 2327/1432
