British C-130 Crashes North of Baghdad

A British C-130 military cargo plane has crashed north of Baghdad. The British Defense Ministry said there was no word on casualties or the cause of the crash.

Rescue teams have been sent to the crash site.

U.S. officials said the plane was flying from Baghdad to the northern city of Balad. News reports say wreckage was spread over a large area. 

The C-130 Hercules is a widely-used aircraft that can be configured to carry heavy equipment and passengers.
