Iraqi Troops Capture Attackers South of Baghdad
Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq -- Iraqi Army troops captured two insurgents who had fired at their checkpoint south of Baghdad on Jan. 30.
The pre-dawn attack near Musayyib involved three men wielding AK-47 assault rifles. The Iraqi Soldiers quickly chased down two of the attackers and confiscated three AK-47's. The third man escaped.
No Iraqi troops were injured in the attack.
Elsewhere in northern Babil Province, Iraqi police officers detained one man acting suspiciously near a polling station to be used in today's nationwide election.
Thousands of Iraqi and U.S. forces are flooding the province to thwart anticipated attacks by insurgents seeking to derail the vote.
