Former Iraqi Abu Ghurayb Inmate Testifies
12 January 2005 -- A former inmate at Iraq's Abu Ghurayb prison has given testimony at a hearing in the United States.
The former prisoner testified at the court martial of U.S. soldier Charles Graner, the accused leader of guards who engaged in the abuse of Iraqi detainees.
In videotaped testimony, the former inmate said the physical and sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of Graner and other guards was so severe that it made him want to commit suicide.
Graner's lawyer argues his client was only following orders to soften up prisoners for military intelligence agents. He said activities such as making human pyramids with naked hooded prisoners were not illegal.
