Gov`t spokesman refutes Iraqi defense minister`s anti-Iran allegation
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Dec 15, IRNA -- Government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh on Wednesday refuted the allegations once again the Iraqi Defense Minister Hazem Shaalan has made over Iranian interference in Iraq. He told reporters that Shaalan has made the allegation once again for domestic consumption and he will backtrack it later as he did so far. "We are used to hearing such unfounded allegations from Iraqi military officers. Two problems should be resolved in Iraq, one, the occupation should come to an end and two, the blind terrorism and violence should end," Ramezanzadeh said. He said that the Iraqi officials know well that Iran has made the most contribution to Iraqi security and stability. "Iran regards security and stability in Iraq as useful for its own national interest," the spokesman said. Ramezanzadeh said that Iran believes that the democratic election in Iraq will lead to establishment of Iraqi legitimate administration and the outcome of the election will be termination of the Iraqi occupation. Asked whether the Iraqi officials have asked assistance from Iran for holding the January 30 election, he said that no request has been made to that effect so far. 1416/1416
