(Al-Sharqiyah, 1 Nov 04):
Al-Sharq al-Awsat [From commentary by Mishari al-Thydi]: "To mitigate the callousness of the hostile discourse permeating his message "to the American people", Bin Laden makes the laughable suggestion that each American state should make a separate peace with him to ward off the threat of suicide bombings and spare its citizens the horrors of confrontation. However, he fails to point out the mechanism whereby he and his Al-Qa'idah cohorts would be able to tell which particular American in which particular state is to be exempted from their notoriously indiscriminate attacks."
``Al-Zarqawi is buying time with negotiation process''- Al-Adalah
Al-Adalah [From commentary by Sahar al-Amiri]: "It is really odd to see an upsurge in violence by Al-Zarqawi terror network even as the government continues to negotiate with the people of Fallujah to have him and his followers turned in. Al-Zarqawi is clearly using the negotiation process as a smoke screen under cover of which to step up his vicious scheme, buying time to create further mayhem. Thanks to this prolonged negotiation process, he seems to have gone a long way in discrediting the government in the eyes of the public by increasingly targeting government officials and troops in addition to innocent civilians."
``The smuggling of Iraqi foodstuffs to Syria, a real calamity''- Al-Dustur
Al-Dustur [From editorial by Bassim al-Shaikh]: "The smuggling to Syria of more than 400 truck loads of Iraqi foodstuffs under the auspices of officials affiliated to president Al-Yawar's tribe in Rabia whom he has entrusted with the task of consolidating security in the area adjacent to the Syrian border, but who, unfortunately, seem to have taken advantage of this blood relationship to violate the law, emerges as an extremely serious precedent, especially if, as some suspect, the illegal financial gains reaped from this operation has actually found its way, wholly or partly, to the coffers of those funding anti-Iraq forces. If the relatives of certain Iraqi officials think they can break the law with impunity and are immune enough to grab a morsel of their own slaughtered country, then we are heading for a real calamity."
``Our own cities were overrun by foreign troops''- Al-Zaman
Al-Zaman [From commentary by Fatih Abd-al-Salam]: "What we are seeing in Iraq today is the first case ever recorded in human history of "a national government" threatening to have its own cities overrun by foreign troops instead of doing everything possible to protect them. The developments now unfolding in Iraq all point to the looming holocaust awaiting half of the country's population under the pretext of hosting alien gunmen. The other half can wait for their turn, as the perpetrators of the coming massacre will never be short of pretexts when the time comes to stage another."
