[Azzaman Newspaper] (31 OCT):
7 Killed By Car Bomb At Al Arabia Channel Office
[Azzaman Newspaper] (31 OCT): A US officer stated an explosion at the Al Arabia channel office in Mansour yesterday killed 7 people. He clarified that many people were injured and taken to Yarmouk Hospital before US forces arrived. An Interior Ministry spokesman said the explosion was caused by a car bomb. Among the dead was a guard and an administrative employee.
"We do not want the Afghan Arabs' tragedy to be repeated. Obviously, there is a strong probability of a new phenomenon of Iraqi Arabs. They are the Arab extremists who have gone to Iraq under the slogan of "jihad against infidels". Those men have found themselves in a difficult position. There are cases of counter-homecoming. When they return, they will continue recruiting young men and inciting them to violence, but this time against their nations and peoples. Some neighbouring states have clearly encouraged extremists to go to Iraq, some to embarrass the United States, others to get rid of them. Those returnees may repeat the tragedies of Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The case with the Iraqi Afghans is the worst. They are not fighting the Americans in Iraq, but only making car bombs against Iraqi civilians. Therefore, their danger upon return will be greater. The point is that all those who have played with the fire to support fighters going to Iraq will not be safe from harm because the game is far bigger."

We have to make election a success- Al-Mada
Al-Mada [Baghdad, daily, independent newspaper published by Al-Mada Media, Culture and Arts Corporation] [From commentary by Ahmad al-Sa'dawi]
"I may not like the results of the upcoming elections starting from the first step and ending with the last political brick in the structure of new Iraq. Still, I will be responsible in a way or another for the picture. Some disturbances, accusations and big headache may follow the results. But all these are minor losses carried with democracy, compared to other well-known losses on the road to power and legitimacy. We have to make election a success not only through participation, but also through keenness that it involves no fraud or rigging, however small."
Afghan Arabs' tragedy should not to be repeated- Al-Sharq al-Awsat
Al-Sharq al-Awsat [Baghdad edition of London-based daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, Saudi-owned] [From opinion by Ahmad al-Rab'i]:
"No matter how this feverish race for the White House will end, with its political, economic and military intricacies, what concerns us here in Iraq are the expected repercussions of the defeat of the president against his democratic rival. The Iraqi street is still wondering if America's position in Iraq will change if Kerry wins, a question implying many smaller questions all revolving around whether America will stay the course in Iraq or run for its life after it has mined Iraq and turned it into a tinderbox whose trigger is held by thousands of lunatics? What we fear from the turn in US position in Iraq goes far beyond troop reduction or even full withdrawal. The Democratic Party is still the conventional tool of the Israeli lobby which knows no profession other than contriving conspiracies against Arabs and Muslims. Naturally, the wounded Iraq will then have its share of the Israeli venom which, we hope, will not be carried in the bag of the US doctor who insists on treating us his way. Let us bet on our own potentials to be prepared for the worst possibilities."
