Al-Sharqiyah Satellite Channel, Baghdad, in Arabic, 5 Oct 04: The Iraqi Central Bank has adopted a new plan for the smooth transfer of Iraqi currency aboard, Al-Sharqiyah TV reported on 5 October. Al-Nahdah [Baghdad, daily political newspaper,by Adnan al-Pachachi [From commentary by Abd al-Mun'im al-A'sam]: "Those who do not see that the security file is closely linked to the living conditions in Iraq are akin to those who fail to see the fact that the average Iraqi citizen has become hostage to the armed forces of barbarism. It should not take much political insight to conceive this equation, which, I think, is high time to reverse through securing a sense of dignity for the Iraqi masses who deserve to be saved from this ever-increasing squalor and to be given access to a decent life. This is the only way to stimulate large sectors of the Iraqi public to assume a more positive role instead of persisting in their present role of by-standers or succumbing to their fate as hostages to terrorist blackmail."

Al-Adalah [Baghdad, twice-weekly newspaper in Arabic published by the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)] [From commentary by Abd al-Karim al-Musawi]: "Iraq is now at a cross-roads and the opportunity of holding the nation's first general elections and restoring its free independent will should not be wasted. This makes it incumbent on all combat-hardened Iraqi freedom-fighters to keep up their strife with the same principled high-spiritedness and the same clarity of ideological vision, taking into account the new Iraqi reality and the nature of the political forces influencing events on the international arena."
