SCIRI's Voice of the Mujahidin in Arabic,Iran, 03 Oct 04: A commentary broadcast on Iraqi Shi'i group's Iran-based Voice of the Mujahidin radio on 3 October said Iraq the two candidates for the US presidential elections, George Bush and John Kerry, used the issue of Iraq in their debate to advance their personal political interests. "Iraq has become a hot issue in the US presidential campaign. The debate between the two men, George Bush and John Kerry, dealt with Iraq without touching on any other important issues in the world and the Middle East, such as the Palestinian issue, which has been in abeyance for decades. This is because the US Administration has been plunged deep in the Iraq quagmire and it has to answer questions by the US and international public opinions on Iraq's future and the seething conditions in Iraq. Our proud people are perfectly aware that the US occupation does not care about the country and its sons because our people have seen the many erroneous polices and behaviours over more than a year of occupation and the subsequent crises and losses, despite the fake slogans about democracy and freedom. The two US candidates, who are in agreement on the supreme policies of the United States, want to attract voters even though at the expense of Iraq and the Iraqis and the peoples of the region."
Al-Mu'tamar [Baghdad, daily newspaper in Arabic published by the Iraqi National Congress] 03 Oct 04: The Iraqi National Congress newspaper Al-Mu'tamar reported on 3 October that Shi'i authority Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani had warned the Iraqi government against the consequences of postponing of the general elections scheduled for January. Al-Diyar Satellite Channel In Arabic, Baghdad, 3 Oct 04:Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Dr Barham Salih announced that the government had allocated 1,000 dollars for every victim of the attack on Al-Amil neighbourhood on 30 September, Iraqi Al-Diyar TV reported on 3 October. Al-Diyar Satellite Channel In Arabic, Baghdad, 3 Oct 04: A US army unit operating in Baghdad on 3 September delivered gifts and medicines to children in Baghdad's Al-Sha'b area, Iraqi TV reported. The gifts included medicines, antibiotics, stationary, school bags, shoes and toys, the TV said.
Al-Zaman [daily, independent, Baghdad edition of London-based Al-Zaman] [From commentary by Fatih Abd al-Salam]: "These are bleak days, and it is not thanks to the government alone that they are so. After all, Iraqis are all part and parcel of their own plight. Yet, the sad thing is that the majority of Iraqis have come to be dominated by a minority bent on imposing its own phony will, boasting international backing and domestic legitimacy. Gentlemen, you have made the wrong choice by bombarding Al-Najaf, Al-Samarra', Al-Fallujah, Tall Afar and Al-Ramadi. If you wish to pursue your military option to stabilize Iraq, then you will need a nuclear bomb to finish the job. Anything short of that will surely boomerang on your Green Zone. What do you say to that?"
Al-Da'wah [Baghdad, weekly newspaper in Arabic published by the Central Bureau of the Islamic Al-Da'wah Party] [From commentary by Hadi Challu Mar'i]: "Some funny fellows, undaunted by the appalling sights of bloody carnage, consider the latest kidnapping of Orascom workers, whose company has been slaughtering Iraqis with its sharp mobile-phone knife, as a rather promising development. They have even expressed support for the kidnappers' demands that the company should lower the fees it charges for the use of its mobiles in return for the release of its poor Egyptian employees, who earn no less than 1,000 US dollars a month each."
Al-Nahdah [Baghdad, daily political newspaper,by Adnan al-Pachachi [From commentary by Abd al-Mun'im al-A'sam]: "We have been blamed by one of our readers for focusing too much on terrorism and terrorists but drawing little attention to corruption and corrupt government employees, though the latter cause no less damage than the former, both hailing from the same sperm. As Iraqis are threatened in their present with kidnapping, killing and bombing at the hands of terrorists, so are they threatened in their future with the bribery, extortion and embezzlement practised by the corrupt. According to our reader, these two categories of outlaws have come to form a secret alliance in which they alternate roles so skillfully that they end up operating from the same trench without us being able to tell them apart."
Al-Adalah [Baghdad, twice-weekly newspaper in Arabic published by the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)] [From commentary by Dr Ali Khlaif]: "Iraqi officials have emphasized that general elections will be held as scheduled. This pledge, made at this critical stage, has important political dimensions the positive impact of which will be visible in good time. First and foremost, it is designed to aim a crushing blow at the enemies of the Iraqi people, undermine anti-democratic forces now at work and silence those imposters so fond of mixing political cards."
