HEADLINE: Three Navy Seals Charged in Deaths of Two Iraqis

INTRO: Three more U.S. military personnel are facing charges in connection with alleged abuse of Iraqi detainees. Correspondent Nick Simeone tells us this latest investigation involves three Navy Seals.

TEXT: The Navy says three members of its elite Special Warfare Command, known as SEALs, are facing criminal charges, based on evidence collected in a military investigation of Iraqi prisoner abuse by American forces.

Navy officials say the charges stem from the deaths of two Iraqis while in U.S. custody. The officials say the three Navy SEALs attempted to hide evidence about the case from their superiors.

Three weeks ago, criminal charges were announced against four other sailors in connection with the Iraqi prison abuse scandal, pictures of which shocked the world when they were released earlier this year.

The latest allegations were announced two days after two Army soldiers in Iraq were charged with murder in connection with the deaths of three other Iraqis. The expanding investigation into Iraqi prisoner abuse has already resulted in at least one dishonorable discharge from the military. (SIGNED)
