A Turkish shipping company says it is withdrawing from Iraq, after militants kidnapped one of its drivers and threatened to behead him.
Speaking Sunday in the Turkish capital, Ankara, company spokesman Edip Rende said he hopes the driver, Mithat Civi, is safely returned home.
Saturday, an Islamic group claimed it had taken the driver hostage and was threatening to kill him unless his employer stopped working for U.S. forces in Iraq.
Also Sunday, Arabic satellite broadcaster Al-Jazeera reports Iraqi militants have kidnapped four Jordanian drivers allegedly working for the U.S. military.
In a videotape, the militants (calling themselves the Fallujah Mujahideen) said the kidnapping was a "final warning" to those working with U.S. forces.
There was no independent confirmation of the kidnapping or the identity of the drivers.
