IRAQI PRESS QUOTES, 29 Sep 04
True resistance knows how, when and who to resist- Baghdad

Baghdad [Baghdad, daily newspaper in Arabic published by the Iraqi National Accord Movement] 29 Sep 04: [From commentary by Rif'at Sayyid Ahmad]: "The true resistance knows how, when and who to resist. It should be a kind of resistance that can rally the people around, not drive them to hate it Any resistance that does not have a clear programme against a clear enemy is by no means resistance. Rather, it is indiscriminate terrorism of which the multinational forces are the first and probably the only beneficiary

Situation in Iraq is a secondary factor in the US elections- Al-Sharq al- Awsat

Al-Sharq al- Awsat [Baghdad edition of London-based daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, Saudi-owned] [From opinion by Adnan Husayn] 29 Sep 04: "The situation in Iraq will not be the decisive factor in US President George Bush's defeat or success in the forthcoming elections. However, it will certainly be one of the secondary factors that will decide whether the Republican president will stay in the White House for another four years, or will leave it for his Democratic rival John Kerry President Bush could have made the Iraqi situation a powerful card to achieve a very easy win, compared to his difficult victory four years ago over Democrat Al Gore, had his administration well run the Iraqi situation after the fall of Saddam Husayn's regime and avoided the big mistakes it had been committing in Iraq "

Civil society organizations major battle, democracy against barbarism- Al-Zaman

Al-Zaman [daily, independent, Baghdad edition of London-based Al-Zaman] [From commentary by Muhsin Dabit al-Jaylawi] 29 Sep 04: "There is enough time for an action by all anti-terror forces, parties, unions and civil society organizations to close ranks and consider that their major battle and challenge is to defeat the killing plan This is the battle of democracy against backwardness and barbarism, a battle where there is no room for neutrality. Otherwise, all will be the victims, and our people will pay for it with more blood and riches, thereby making deadly mistakes that render greater service to those killers "
