(Al-Sharqiyah Satellite Channel, Baghdad, in Arabic,6 Sep 04) - Abu-Mus'ab al-Zarqawi "miraculously" escaped a recent ambush set for him near Al-Fallujah a few days ago, Al-Sharqiyah TV reported on 6 September quoting government sources. The sources said that Al-Zarqawi managed to escape the grip of the Iraqi forces, which started to besiege him and monitor his movements.

(Dar al-Salam radio, Iraqi Islamic Party-affiliated , 6 Sep 04) - The Iraqi Islamic Party has issued a statement denouncing US attacks in Tala'far and describing their actions as "foolish", Iraqi Islamic Party radio Dar al-Salam reported on 6 September. The party called on the interim government to intervene immediately to halt the "bloodbath" in Tala'far and to lift the siege imposed on the city. "Apparently, the collective-punishment policy has become a necessary phenomenon of the US disgraceful actions against our hurt Iraqi people," the statement said. It added: "Thus far, the occupation forces demolished 12 houses after besieging the city on the pretext that elements affiliated with the armed resistance are in the city, demanding the city's residents to hand over weapons, which we doubt even exist".

[Baghdad, daily newspaper in Arabic published by the Iraqi National Accord Movement] 6 Sep: [From editorial by Tawfiq Abu-Bakr] "The main lesson from everything that has happened is that no party in Iraq can impose its agenda on the whole Iraqi political parties, even if emboldened by those outside the borders or by all the satellite channels of this time Saddam Husayn tried to impose his own agenda on the world, and he paid the price. In the region, we have other leaders who have not learnt the "whole" lesson. They will pay the price for their stubbornness The Sadrist Movement is no exception from the lessons of Arab political life We hope the sound-minded men in the Sadrist Movement, who are so many, will act to purge the ranks of their former army from the casual intruders and enter the political arena from its widest doors to contribute to building the state establishments. This is the only way for the departure of foreign forces."
Al-Dustur [Baghdad, daily independent newspaper in Arabic] 6 Sep: [From editorial by Basim al-Shaykh] Neither Izzat (al-Duri) nor any other criminal are able to remain at large to provide the human killing machines with funds and weapons and prolonging our sufferings We have had the chance to see the end of tyrants so that history will prove its genuine course that the will of peoples always prevails Izzat al-Duri or others who established the empire of evil were nothing but whips in Saddam's hands with which to scourge whoever he wanted Let all remember that tyranny is a plague that throws its victims in the whirlwind of disgrace and the dustbin of history.
"Al-Jaridah [Baghdad, daily independent newspaper in Arabic (provisionally published Monday/Wednesday/Thursday)] 6 Sep: [From editorial by Qays al-Azzawi] "There are deep Iraqi popular fears from any Iraqi policy approaching Israel, secretly or publicly. These fears are not born today. They are not linked to the former, present or subsequent regime either. The Iraqi people, with all its sections, have the irreversible, firm conviction that Israel will remain the Arabs' number one enemy so long as it denies the Palestinians their rights, usurps their lands and defies the United Nations."
07 September 2004
News agencies reported that President Ghazi Al-Yawar appointed Parliament member Samir Al-Sumaidayee as Iraq's representative at the United Nations. Kurdistan and Iraq status quo, the political process and the Iraqi interim government's duties and a complete resolution for the Kirkuk issue were the main issues discussed between the KDP leader Massoud Barzani and a number of the US military commanders visiting him. Barzani said the situation in Kirkuk was the outcome of the wrong policies of eth former regime and the oppressed victims must regain their rights.
Kurdistani Nwe, PUK mouthpiece, Sulaymanya 6 September 2004
During his reception to a delegation of Kirkuk's Chaldo-Assyrians, the PUK leader expressed readiness to support all the Chaldo-Assyrians who approach Kurdistan from central and southern Iraq. The PUK leader directed ``concerned parties'' for the implementation of a number of projects for the Christians in Kirkuk, including construction of a cultural center, rehabilitation of churches and provision of guards, as well as providing bodyguards for eth Chaldo-Assyrian KMC members. Recalling the historic friendly relations between the Kurds and Chaldo-Assyrians, Talabani stressed on Kurdistaniness of Kirkuk according to all historic evidences.
(Al-Sharqiyah Satellite Channel, Baghdad, in Arabic,6 Sep 04) -Hundreds demonstrate in Baghdad in support of Iraq government: Hundreds of Iraqis took part in a rally on 6 September to show support for Iyad Allawi's government, Baghdad's Al-Sharqiyah TV reported. The rally also protested against terrorism and the interference of neighbouring countries in Iraq's internal affairs, the TV said. The protesters gathered in front of the headquarters of the Iraqi government, carrying placards reading: No to terrorism; yes, yes to peace; through dialogue we will build the new Iraq, not by the use of arms; neighbouring countries stop interfering in our internal affairs. The protestors demanded that the international community force neighbouring countries not to interfere in Iraq's internal affairs. The TV said some 50 organizations from civil society organizations, workers' unions, women organizations, and tribal leaders took part in the demonstration.

Al-Sadr UK funds four new projects in Iraq.
The Acting Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Erbil Administration received the British Consular in Kirkuk and his delegation for discussion over the prevailing political and security situation in Kurdistan, as well economic exchange and the return of Kurdish refugees from the UK. On the latter issue, the Acting PM asserted that the return should be optional taking into consideration the refugee's political, social and economic situations. The KRG Minister of Humanitarian Aid and Cooperation and his deputy also received the same delegation for debate on the UK government's decision that stipulates sending back to Kurdistan Region the asylum seekers whose refugee applications were not accepted. The Minster said forceful return of asylum seekers to Iraq was a delectate and complex issue, despite Kurdistan Region's relative security. KRG expressed willingness for optional returns and rejected forceful deportations insisting on the NHCR involvement in any return process and calling for practical solutions at Europe level.
The preacher of Al-Risala Mosque in Mosul issued a fatwa (Islamic obligatory opinion) in his latest Friday prayer calling for Jihad (religious war) against the Kurds and the Americans. Preacher Mulla Qasim also announce a $100 reward for anyone registering himself for Jihad saying that there was no difference between civilian and non-civilian Kurds. The Mosque was constructed and Qaism appointed as preacher upon Saddam's special directives. After Saddam's fall, eth mosque has become the stronghold of Mosul hardliners and a terror hideout.
A police commander in Kirkuk announced that a joint operation between the police and the Iraqi National Guards in Al-Khathra Quarter yesterday morning resulted in the arrest of 38 Arab terrorists, most of them Arab settlers. Four of the arrestees were policemen.
Monday's Kirkuk Governorate Municipality Council (KMC) 66th regular meeting was postponed as a number of Arab and Turcoman chauvinist members refused to attend. The Arabs and the Turcoman Front (TF) affiliates at the Council withdrew from the meeting after they saw that the agenda included Kirkuk reconstruction projects and the rehabilitation of Shuraw Kurdish devastated village, a source announced on condition of anonymity. The TF affiliates and Arab chauvinists always try to hinder the reconstruction of Kirkuk's devastated villages.
(Editorial) The Anniversary of announcing the end of Saddam's Operation Anfal elapsed days ago. Large numbers of bereaved mothers and sisters were amongst the survivals of the former regime's genocide campaigns against Kurdistan codenamed Anfal. The KRG has supported the families of victims to a large extent despite limited resources. With the elapse of more that a year since the regime fall, the Iraqi new government is called to reconstruct the country on human rights and democracy basis. This reconstruction will not be balanced if the humanitarian aspect is not prioritized and the victims of Anfal and their areas constitute a broad sector that require government's a serious consideration.
A source from the PUK foreign Relations Bureau announced the return of 11 Iraqi Kurdish refugee families returned home from Iran via Parwezkhan border point Sunday. Another 18 families have returned from the same rout the day earlier. More refugees register themselves at the PUK office in Iranian Kermashan city for returning home. The KRG Human Rights, IDPs and Refugees Ministry provides them with financial support and residential units in their places of origin.
