Iran says "too soon" to discuss peace-troops to Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi said here on Sunday that Iran`s decision toward a possible UN request to send peace-keeping troops to Iraq will depend on the establishment of a permanent government in the country. "We have not made any such request and have neither received any request [to that effect]," Assefi told reporters in a news meeting. "It is still too soon to judge Iraq`s current situation, and one should wait for the establishment of a permanent government in the country to see how it wants other countries to be in Iraq." Assefi`s comments were raised just as Iraq`s Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh arrived in Tehran Saturday to discuss issues of mutual interest with Iranian officials. Saleh, who is accompanied by Interior Minister Fallah al-Naqib and Minister of Transportation Behnam Zia Boulos, is reportedly visiting Tehran to make preparations for Prime Minister Iyad Allawi`s trip to the Islamic Republic. 2330/1432
