President Bush reportedly has admitted he miscalculated post-war conditions in Iraq.

The New York Times says Friday edition that Mr. Bush made the revelation during an interview with the paper. However, the president insisted that the 17-month-long insurgency was the unintended by-product of what he called "a swift victory" against Iraq's military.

According to the newspaper, Mr. Bush said the Iraqi army disappeared into cities, enabling it to mount a rebellion against U.S.-led forces faster than anticipated.

On other topics, Mr. Bush said he does not believe his Democratic Party opponent, Senator John Kerry, lied about his war record, but he declined to condemn ads that claim Mr. Kerry came by his war medals dishonestly.
