Najaf Governor says negotiations continue

Najaf, Aug 13, IRNA -- Najaf province Governor General Adnan Alzarfi said negotiations between representatives of government and Moqtada Al-Sadr which started on Friday noon, continues. He told IRNA the aim of the negotiations is to find a way to stop current conflict in Najaf, but it has not come to a conclusion, yet. Alzarfi added he has not had any direct contact with Al-Sadr. Earlier in the morning, one of the Al-Sadr deputies said Moqtada Al-Sadr was wounded in chest and both legs, but later, Iraqi interior minister denied it. An IRNA local reporter in Najaf said there has been a huge demonstration in the town on Friday noon to oppose current conflict and call for immediate stop of the bloodshed. Some of The demonstrators were carrying the pictures of Moqtada Sadr and the Grand Ayatollah Sistani and in their slogans condemned American forces attack against Najaf. According to the latest news from Najaf, the situation is relatively calm and the residents can go out to provide necessities. 1391/1771
