Iraq security official says wants to meet Sadr to talk cease-fire

Najaf, Aug 13, IRNA -- Iraq`s national security advisor Mowaffaq al-Rubaie said here on Friday that he wants to meet cleric Moqtada Sadr to talk about ending clashes in the holy city of Najaf. Rubaie told reporters that he has put forth much effort to meet Sadr and that his efforts have so far failed. He added that he still insists on meeting the cleric. The security advisor arrived in Najaf on Thursday to meet Sadr to discuss the ways to stop the fighting in the city. Sadr was wounded in attacks by US-led forces in Najaf early Friday but there has been contradictory reports on his conditions. A Sadr deputy, Sheikh Ali Sumeisim, has said that the cleric is keeping "very high morale" even though he has been wounded. Also, another spokesman of the cleric, Sheikh al-Kazemi, has said that Sadr has suffered serious injuries and has been wounded in chest and both legs. 2330/1432
