Four Iranian directors arrested by US troops in Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA -- An official said here on Wednesday that four Iranian directors visiting Iraq for business talks had been arrested by US troops last month and are currently kept in an unknown location. Chairman of Iran`s Chamber of Cooperatives Mohammad-Reza Ramezani said the directors, who were visiting Iraq upon arrangements by Iraqi officials, had been arrested on July 18 at their office in Iraq. Ramezani identified the directors as Mohammad-Mehdi Teimouri, Masoud Zare, Yousef Mohseni and Qasem Salehi, adding that they were visiting Baghdad to follow up agreements that Iran had signed with Iraq to promote trade ties, particularly in the area of agriculture and fishing. The official said the directors had been handed to the Iraqi police later on July 27, and had been then transferred to an unknown location. Ramezani recalled the reports of the London-based Al-Zaman daily quoting Iraqi intelligence officials that the Iranians were spies and insurgents, stressing that the directors were visiting Iraq merely to explore ways to promote mutual trade ties. He said the behavior of US troops toward the Iranians was against international protocols, and urged the government to take the required measures for their release. 2330/2322/1432
