Iraq announces reinstatement of death penalty
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Baghdad, Aug 8, Kyodo/OANA/IRNA -- Iraq`s interim government announced Sunday the reinstatement of capital punishment for a range of crimes including murder and drug offenses. The death penalty, which had been suspended during the US occupation, will go into effect once it had been published in a government gazette, officials told a news conference. The death penalty under the new law is more restrictive than that it had been during the rule of Saddam Hussein, according to the officials. /2322/1432
