Iraqi President Promises To Punish Insurgents
12 July 2004 -- Iraq's interim President Ghazi Ajil al-Yawir promised action today against those threatening Iraq's security.
Speaking during a meeting with interim Defense Minister Hazim Shalan al-Khuza'i, al-Yawir said Iraqi authorities have "a very sharp sword" ready for anyone who threatens Iraq's stability.
In other developments, a spokesman for the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) said today that an official of the group's Badr Brigades was gunned down yesterday in the town of Musayyib, some 60 kilometers south of the capital Baghdad.
Meanwhile, the fate of four kidnapped foreigners in Iraq -- two Bulgarians, one Fillipino, and one Egyptian -- remains unclear today, as demands set by their kidnappers have not been met.
