IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, July 11, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here Sunday said that Iraq has announced its interest in expanding ties with Iran. Addressing reporters at his weekly briefing, Asefi referred to the remarks of Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Mahmud Zebari denouncing interference of certain neighboring states, excluding Iran, in Iraq`s domestic affairs and said that this had been confirmed by Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid al-Bayati. Concerning the text of the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan`s letters to the presidents of Iran and Syria, he confirmed that they were both alike and that the content was not threatening. In response to a query raised on the date of resumption of production of centrifuge parts by Iran, he replied, "The United Nations nuclear watchdog has been informed of details of Iran`s program. Meanwhile, Iran remains committed to Tehran Declaration. "We suspended producing centrifuge parts voluntarily. However, following recent developments in this respect we revised our decision and informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European countries about it," he added. Asefi underlined once more that Iran has been transparent in its cooperation with IAEA. "There are no evidences to prove application of nuclear technology by Iran for military purposes," he added. 2326/1412
