- USS George Washington Departs Arabian Gulf Navy Newsstand 06 Jul 2004 -- USS George Washington (GW) (CVN 73) departed the Arabian Gulf July 5, following more than four months on station providing air support for ground troops fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
- Iraq: Appeal For Hostage's Release Comes As U.S. Battles Sophisticated Insurgency RFE/RL 06 Jul 2004 -- The family of U.S. soldier Wassef Ali Hassoun -- kidnapped in Iraq -- are publicly appealing to his captors to safely release him. The appeal comes as U.S. forces battle what appears to be an increasingly well-organized insurgency in the country. The insurgents make frequent use of kidnappings and suicide bombings, as well as guerrilla attacks.
- IRAQ WRAP VOA 06 Jul 2004 -- In Iraq, a shadowy group of gunmen is threatening to kill accused Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, saying his alleged involvement in a series of executions and deadly bombings undermines Islam. Another car bomb killed at least eight people Tuesday northeast of Baghdad on a day when five American Marines were also reported killed in combat.

- MPs, Iraqi Police bring Academy back to life USARCENT 06 Jul 2004 -- A handful of gutted buildings co-located with the Emergency Police Station in east Karbala will soon be home to the new Iraqi Police Service Academy thanks to the "Headhunters" of 4th Platoon, 66th Military Police Company, Task Force 1st Armored Division.
