- TONGANS JOIN I MEF FORCES IN AL ANBAR PROVINCE MNF-I/MNC-I 04 Jul 2004 -- Approximately 45 Royal Marines from the Kingdom of Tonga have arrived in Iraq to augment the I Marine Expeditionary Force in the Al Anbar Province, marking the first peacekeeping deployment for the Tongan Defense Service outside of the South Pacific.

Reconstruction Issues
- MNF-North: Mosul Airfield renovations begin transition to civilian use CENTCOM 04 Jul 2004 -- Renovations are underway to turn Mosul Airfield into a commercial airport, bringing international commerce and trade to northern Iraq. A ceremony was held Saturday to celebrate the first phase of the airfield construction and the beginning of the transition.
- IRAQ / MILITANTS VOA 04 Jul 2004 -- The new Iraqi interim government says it is considering offering amnesty to militants and insurgents, in hopes of cutting down the daily attacks against Iraqis and coalition forces. At the same time, Iraqi police say they have arrested members of a terror group with suspected ties to al-Qaida.
