Iran condemns assassination of head of Iraq`s governing council

Baghdad, May 17, IRNA -- The Islamic Republic of Iran`s Embassy here on Monday condemned the killing of the current head of Iraqi Governing Council Ezzedin Salim. Salim was killed in a suicide car bomb blast along with 10 others in the Green Zone, next to a presidential palace in the capital city of Baghdad Monday morning local time. "The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the terrorist act," said Iran`s Embassy in Baghdad in a statement a copy of which was made available to IRNA. "We hope that those who have committed the crime will soon be brought to justice," added the statement. Iran`s Embassy in Baghdad extended condolences to Salim`s family, according to the statement. 1405/AH/210
