Secretary Rumsfeld Stakeout after Congressional Hearing

Q: [Inaudible]

RUMSFELD: Who asked me that? [Inaudible] So at the moment, the way to think of it until advised to the contrary, is that there will be individuals who will participate so that they can talk to each other [Inaudible] it may not be.

Q: And they will report to you?

RUMSFELD: They will report to anyone who wants to know what they have to say.

Q. [Inaudible]. When you talk about reparations, do you mean..

RUMSFELD: I've never mentioned the word.

Q: I'm sorry.

RUMSFELD: I have never mentioned the word. Others used that word. I did not. I hope did not. It's been a long day. I pray I did not. It is not the right word.

Q: I'm so sorry, I'm sorry. Okay.

RUMSFELD: That's not the word we want to use.

Q: What's the.

RUMSFELD: The law allows us to do certain things.

Q: What's the range are you looking at?

RUMSFELD: I'm not. I've got people working.

Q: And do you think that Abu Gharib should.

RUMSFELD: Why don't you ask me who the people are?

Q: Are you going to tell me?

RUMSFELD: You - only if you ask.

Q: Okay, who are the people that are going to be on the panel - or who are you going to consult?

RUMSFELD: Should I? Why give it to The New York Times? You ask me.

Q. You know I want to ask you.

RUMSFELD: No. I'm going to go. I'm tired. It's been a long day. Dr. Jim Schlesinger has agreed to participate, and the former secretary of defense, former secretary of energy, Tillie Fowler, former member of Congress has agreed to participate, General Chuck Horner has agreed to participate, retired four-star Air Force officer. And I'm having discussions with one other individual and he has a personal situation that we're working on in terms of time availability and I'm not ready to announce any other name. I doubt if it would go beyond four. Does that do it? Aren't you glad you asked me?

Q: Sir, do you believe Abu Ghraib should be torn down or abandoned?

RUMSFELD: I think it's up to the Iraqi people.

Q: Sir, those videos and other stills you're talking about, are those going to be as bad, you think?
