OIC calls for swift withdrawal of occupiers from Iraq

Putrajaya, April 22, IRNA -- The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) issued a declaration here Thursday calling for swift withdrawal of invaders from Iraq. Foreign ministers and representatives from about 20 countries representing various special committees in the 56-member OIC, the world`s largest Islamic grouping, met in Malaysia`s administrative capital Putrajaya. OIC held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday to discuss recent developments in the Middle East region. The participants issued a declaration to urge the invaders to leave the country as soon as possible and let the Iraqi nation manage its own affairs. The statement urges the Iraqis to respect conventions with its neighboring countries. The participants at the OIC meeting expressed concern over disrespect to religious centers and called for observance of international rules and regulations concerning religious places. They also expressed concern over attack to foreign diplomats in Iraq and called for their security. Expressing concern over the existing crisis in the occupied land in Palestine, the OIC underlined the need to support the political, material and moral moves in Palestine and the legitimate rights of the Palestinians to resist and struggle to attain their goal which is the liberation of the occupied land in Palestine. The declaration underlines the legitimate rights of all Palestinian in administering their own affairs and their right to return to their motherland. The participants underlined the legitimate right of the Palestinians in their fight against the Zionist regime. The participants called the United States of America to reconsider its support for the plan devised by the Israeli prime minister which is contradictory with the peace efforts in the Middle East. The declaration underlines that no one has the right to give concession to the Israelis on Palestinian rights and it is only the Palestinians who can administer their own affairs. The OIC also called the United Nations Security Council to study stationing of a peace force in the Middle East region to monitor the implementation of the peace plan in the region. The declaration called the UN and international community to insist on restoration of legitimate rights of people in Palestine and Iraq. Malaysia currently chairs the OIC as well as the Non-Aligned Movement, which also plans to hold a meeting on the same issues after the OIC meeting. 1430/AH/210 End
