Berlin `rules out completely` sending troops to Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, April 14, IRNA -- The German government has ruled out again the deployment of troops in war-stricken Iraq but has voiced continued readiness to provide humanitarian aid and help in the country`s rebuilding process, a top German official said here Wednesday. "Our principled position is known: We want to be engaged in civilian reconstruction and humanitarian aid. However German troops in Iraq can be completely ruled out," German deputy government spokesman Thomas Steg told the media. He refused to speculate whether Berlin`s stance would change under a possible new United Nations mandate. Germany had strongly opposed the American-led military invasion of Iraq. OT/AH/210 End
