US inspector admits absence of WMD in Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Paris, Feb 16, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- The situation with weapons on mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq has undermined confidence in the United States for a generation to come, David Kay, former head of the group of US inspectors in Iraq, has said here in an interview. According to David Kay, he was sure Iraq possessed WMD, when he came to Iraq in July 2003. Soon he changed his mind, however. All the facilities, where, in the opinion of the security services, WMD could be produced or stockpiled, had nothing to do with them, he continued. Kay came to a final conclusion about the absence of WMD in Iraq after the inspectors did not get any piece of evidence from the Iraqi scientists and specialists, which might indicate the presence of WMD in that country. Kay stressed they had been wrong, and now it was time to acknowledge their mistakes and to analyze carefully the reasons for them, so that the United States could restore its reputation. /AH/210 End
