No one at fault` for Kelly`s death, says Hutton

London, Jan. 28, IRNA -- The head of the inquiry into the death of David Kelly, said Wednesday that he had concluded that "no one was at fault" for not contemplating that the former Iraq arms inspector would commit suicide last July. Presenting a summary of a 328-page report on his findings, Lord Hutton said that he was "satisfied" that nobody involved in the controversy realised or presumed that he would take his own life, regardless of the pressure he was put under. The former senior Law Lord also ruled out that his inquiry could conclude on questions relating to the wider controversy surrounding the use of the government`s arms dossier on Saddam Hussein`s threat to justify the Iraq war, saying it did not fall within his remit. The reliability of intelligence in the dossier relating to the claim that Saddam could use weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes also did not fall within the terms of reference of his inquiry, he said. Hutton`s findings were seen clearing the government of being responsible for the death of Kelly in its dispute with the BBC, in which the former arms inspector was exposed as the source of its report in May that claimed Iraq`s threat had been exaggerated. He said that he was also satisfied that Kelly took his own life after he went missing from his Oxfordshire home, west of London, and that no third part was involved. HC/212 End
