IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
London, Jan 20, IRNA -- Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram has revealed that Britain has paid out an average of pnds 2,700 (dlrs 4,8000) in compensation for each Iraqi civilian death that allegedly involved UK forces since the end of combat operations. He told MPs on Monday that settlements had totalled pnds 8,125 for three fatality cases. The average payment was nearly half of compensation for property damage, which totalled pnds 34,243 for seven settlements. Last month, Ingram said that out of a total of 23 claims for civilian fatalities, seven had been rejected and 13 were still under investigation. In his latest reply to a written parliamentary question, he listed total settlements of pnds 72,224 being paid for 57 different claims, including 20 cases for personal injuries and 27 for road traffic accidents. Altogether 588 claims for compensation had been submitted to the UK of which 226 had been repudiated, 13 had been transferred to other contingents or organizations and 57 had received payments, while the remainder were still under investigation, the minister revealed.
