MOSCOW, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A plane carrying Georgian Defense Minister David Tevzadze came under fire as it took off from Baghdad's airport early Friday, but no one was hurt, a top Georgian military official said.
The plane, which was shot minutes after it took off, made a maneuver, Koba Kobaladze, Georgia's national guard chief travelingwith the minister, told reporters upon returning to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
Several helicopters from the US-led coalition immediately flew to the area where the attack occurred, and returned fire, according to a US official.
"I was sleeping at the time, and did not notice anything," Tevzadze said.
Tevzadze arrived at Baghdad Thursday to inspect the 70 Georgianelite troops, who were sent there in August as part of the US-led multinational force.
