UK`s top man in Iraq arrives in Tehran for talks

IRNA

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA -- United Kingdom`s special representative for
Iraq, Sir Jeremy Greenstock, arrived in Tehran Monday for a one-day
visit to hold bilateral talks on Iraq with Iranian officials.
According to a British embassy press release here, the official
will "discuss a broad range of issues including the role of Iran in
the reconstruction of Iraq, border issues, Iranian pilgrims crossing
the border to visit Najaf and Karbala, and the political process" in
the war-torn country.
"Iran has a strong interest in ensuring a peaceful and stable
future for Iraq and can make significant contributions to the
reconstruction effort," the embassy cited Greenstock as saying.
The visit is part of ongoing dialogue about Iraq between the
Islamic Republic and the United Kingdom.
"This visit presents an excellent opportunity for the UK to
engage in dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran over a topic of
mutual interest," Greenstock said.
The visit follows that by the former special envoy to Iraq, John
Sawers, who travelled to Tehran in July 2003.
Jeremy Greenstock, previously UK ambassador to the United
Nations, was appointed UK special representative to Iraq on September
12, 2003.
