UPDATE: COALITION FORCES FIRED UPON IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS RECENTLY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - Iraqis fired at Coalition forces on three separate locations recently.
Coalition civil engineers were shot at today while working in a gas-oil separation plant in the Ramaila oilfields. Three occupants in a white-pickup truck drove by and reportedly opened fire on the engineers. There were no injuries. Coalition soldiers as part of the security force were in the area at the time, but did not return fire.
In Fallujah late this morning, Iraqi civilians throwing rocks and firing weapons attacked a convoy. The convoy returned fire, and the crowd was dispersed by the arrival of Coalition helicopters. Preliminary reports from Coalition forces indicated two Iraqis were killed in this action. One U.S. soldier was injured by a rock thrown through a windshield.
The latest incident in Fallujah follows an incident late Monday that was previously reported, in which Coalition forces were securing a school in Fallujah when youths began firing weapons during a demonstration. The youths were said to be demonstrating to withdraw U.S. forces from the school in the town. Coalition forces cannot confirm the exact number of casualties from this incident.
In each case, Coalition forces exercised their inherent right to self-protection in accordance with the rules of engagement.
Coalition forces remains dedicated to setting the conditions throughout Iraq so that the delivery of humanitarian aid, and infrastructure repair can continue.
