INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS VISITS IRAQI PRISONERS OF WAR
Camp As Sayliyah, near Doha, Qatar - The International Committee of the Red Cross has started visiting Iraqi prisoners of war held by coalition forces in Iraq.
A 15-member delegation toured a camp near Umm Qasr Monday to assess the treatment of prisoners there. The Geneva Conventions require countries to allow Red Cross access to prisoners of war and to treat prisoners of war humanely. Coalition forces are following the conventions' guidelines.
The Red Cross has not been allowed to visit coalition prisoners of war being held by Iraq, and Iraq has violated the Geneva Conventions by showing coalition prisoners of war on Iraqi television.
