PATRIOT BATTERY INTERCEPTS 3RD IRAQI MISSILE
CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - For the third time during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a Kuwaiti PATRIOT firing battery successfully intercepted and destroyed one Iraqi ballistic missile during an attack on U.S. and Coalition forces in Kuwait at approximately 11:30 a.m. (3:30 a.m. EST) yesterday, March 26.
The PATRIOT's guidance and control system locked onto the Iraqi ballistic missile, successfully engaging the target. It is not known at this time what type of munitions the Iraqi ballistic missile was carrying. Also, authorities are still assessing if any damage or casualties occurred from this engagement. Kuwaiti PATRIOT units continue to provide a staunch defense of their homeland in partnership with U.S. Patriot forces.
To date, PATRIOT systems have engaged and destroyed eight short-range ballistic missiles.
