COALITION LEAFLETS EMPHASIZE INTENTION TO AVOID LANDMARKS

SOUTHWEST ASIA - Coalition aircrews dropped approximately 600,000 informational leaflets into Iraq throughout the day Tuesday providing a variety of messages, including one that emphasized that the Coalition does not wish to harm Iraqi landmarks.
The leaflet also stated that the Coalition will destroy "any viable military target."

The leaflet reinforces the Coalition's policy to strike only targets of military significance while avoiding facilities of religious or cultural significance.

The leaflets dropped Tuesday expressed a variety of other messages as well. A sampling of messages are:

- Tune to "information radio" for news and information

- For their safety, civilians should stay in their homes and avoid military buildings

- Instructions to Iraqi soldiers about how to capitulate

The leaflet drops are part of an information campaign to support the disarmament of Iraq. The objective of the campaign is to inform Iraqi citizens and soldiers to achieve the disarmament and liberation of Iraq with minimum casualties.

The Coalition dropped six leaflet types Tuesday. They were: IZD001, IZD003, IZD022a, IZD023, IZD027a and IZD069.
