PATRIOT BATTERY INTERCEPTS, DESTROYS IRAQI MISSILE

CAMP DOHA, KUWAIT - A PATRIOT firing battery successfully intercepted and destroyed an incoming Iraqi tactical ballistic missile during an attack on U.S. and Coalition Forces in Kuwait at approximately 1:00 a.m. (5:00 p.m. EST). Two bright orange flashes were seen over Kuwait as the engaging PATRIOT missile destroyed the Iraqi TBM.
It is unknown at this time what type of munitions the Iraqi missile was carrying.
The PATRIOT system deployed on the battlefield today is the latest version referred to as a PAC-3, which has significant upgrades in accuracy, lethality and defended footprint over previous versions of the missile system.
