RFE/L
21 FEBRUARY 2003
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held private interviews on 21 February with Iraqi "specialists." Both interviews were tape-recorded. The UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) reported that the IAEA interviewed two members of Iraq's former gas centrifuge program; the first was an engineer and the second, a magnet specialist.
A team of two UNMOVIC missile inspectors visited the Al-Musayyib Electricity
Station to inspect fuel tanks used for operating the station, the Iraqi Foreign
Ministry stated. UNMOVIC stated that the purpose of the inspection was to
ascertain whether missile-related items were stored there.
A team of four biological inspectors conducted reconnaissance over the Al-Ishaqi
Dairy Plant in Al-Dajil and the Insecticide Factory belonging to the Al-Tariq
State Company, located 100 kilometers north of Baghdad, the ministry reported.
UNMOVIC confirmed that inspectors carried out an aerial inspection of two sites
"to the west and northwest of Baghdad."
