VOICED AT:

INTRO: The chief of U-N nuclear weapons inspections in Iraq says he needs four or five more months to complete his work there. Mohammed ElBaradai of the International Atomic Energy Agency says Iraq needs to be more forthcoming with inspectors if war is to be avoided. V-O-A's Michael Drudge has more from London.

TEXT: Mr. ElBaradai said the Iraqi government has been reasonably cooperative with his team of inspectors, but less so with the U-N officials who are looking for chemical and biological weapons.

He told British radio Thursday he needs four or five more months to determine whether Iraq possesses any nuclear weapons capabilities, and he has been urging the Iraqis to be more cooperative.

/// ELBARADEI ACT ///

They need to show quickly that there is a change of heart. That they are eager to be disarmed and not just being dragged into compliance.

/// END ACT ///

Mr. ElBaradai says he hopes inspectors can get the time they need to complete their work and that war can be avoided. If not, he said it could have what he termed "incalculable consequences" for the international community. (Signed).
