FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COALITION FORCES DROP LEAFLETS IN SOUTHERN IRAQ
SOUTHWEST ASIA - Coalition aircraft dropped 360,000 leaflets of two specific types over several areas in southern Iraq at about 5:45 a.m. EST today.
The leaflets were dropped near Tallil, approximately 170 miles east southeast of Baghdad, and Ad Diwaniyah, approximately 75 south of Baghdad.
There were two types of leaflets dropped. One leaflet version referred Iraqis to radio frequencies where Coalition forces are broadcasting information about United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, United Nations weapons inspectors in Iraq, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's reign and other topics. The other type was specifically directed towards Iraqi air defense personnel to alert them not to track or fire on Coalition aircraft.
This was the eighth leaflet drop over southern Iraq by Coalition aircraft in 2003 in January 2003 and the 18th since October 2002.
