Tracking Inspections: 24 January 2003

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry noted in its daily briefing that the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) asked to interview Iraqi scientists on 25 January, adding, "The National Monitoring Directorate [NMD] informed them personally and encouraged them to conduct the interview in accordance with Article 7 of the statement which the two sides agreed upon on 20 January."

Two inspectors from the IAEA met with the NMD to inform it of their intention to go to the Al-Rimah Factory in Mosul by helicopter on 25 January, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Five chemical inspectors returned to the Al-Qa'qa State Company to inspect the Industrial Wastewater Treatment facility and the Research and Development Center, the ministry reported. UNMOVIC noted that this was the seventh day of inspections.

Inspectors then proceeded to the Ma'moun Factory at the Al-Rashid State Company located in the same vicinity. Inspectors visited the Bero Chlorate Ammonium Production Unit to check tagged equipment. UNMOVIC stated that the factory "produces munitions and chemical materials for munitions."

The inspectors then proceeded to the Al-Basil State Company in the Al-Jadiriyah Complex in Baghdad. UNMOVIC reported that Al-Basil is "primarily a research center for chemical products."
