Tracking Inspections: 1 January 2003
A total of 39 inspectors visited four sites on 1 January 2003. A team of five inspectors visited the Al-Amiriyah Storages of the Al-Majd State Company located 30 kilometers west of Baghdad in Al-Amiriyah and owned by Iraq's Military Industrial Organization (MIO). The Iraqi Foreign Ministry noted that inspectors "toured the site and inspect[ed] the buildings from outside because there were no employees [there] due to the holiday." The UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) did not comment on the inspection, but said that the site "is a store that contains some electronics and corrosion-resistant materials."
A team of 11 missile inspectors returned to the Al-Harith State Company at Taji. The Foreign Ministry did not comment on this inspection, but UNMOVIC stated in its daily briefing that days earlier, "Iraqi representatives requested that UNMOVIC remove tags from SA-2 missiles to facilitate required maintenance tasks." UNMOVIC added that inspectors re-inspected the facility while there. It was previously inspected on 19 December.
In addition, a UNMOVIC biological team visited the Baghdad Alcoholic Drinks Company, UNMOVIC stated. The company "is a brewery that produces beer for the local market." A second team went to the 7-UP Plant located at the National Food Industries in Baghdad, according to the UNMOVIC statement. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry did not mention the biological inspections in its daily statement.
