Iraqi official to discuss debts, oil contracts at talks in Moscow

Beirut, Dec 22, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Problems of the Iraqi debt to Russia and contracts of Russian oil companies in Iraq will be in the focus of attention at talks of the Chairman of the Interim Governing Council (IGC) of Iraq and leader of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution Abdel Aziz al-Hakim in Moscow on Monday. Al-Hakim is the first representative of the new Iraqi leadership who came on a visit to Moscow. Al-Hakim said that IGC has good relations with Moscow and Iraq comes out in favor of further development of ties with Russia. Besides bilateral cooperation, the two sides will also discuss the situation around Iraq. The Governing Council jointly with some European countries put forward several proposals at the UN concerning the issue of presence of the world community in Iraq. The Interim Governing Council, stressed its head, is seeking `termination of occupation and transfer of power to the Iraqi people within the next six months`. The Governing Council is in favor of establishment of good-neighbour relations with Syria, Turkey, Iran and countries-members of the Council of Cooperation of Arab States of the Persian Gulf," said al-Hakim, visiting Damascus on the eve of his visit to Moscow. /AH/210 End
