German Defence Minister rejects NATO role in Iraq
IRNA
Berlin, Dec 5, IRNA -- German Defence Minister Peter Struck on Friday spoke out against a NATO engagement in the Iraq crisis, DPA reported. "I do not see any role for NATO in Iraq," he said during a visit in Pristina. His remarks come as US Secretary of State Colin Powell, hoping to ease pressure on US troops, is drumming up support for a direct NATO role in violence-torn country. NATO suffered a major divide during the Iraq conflict with France, Germany, and Belgium unwilling to join the US-led war. VKP/214 End
