Iraq welcomes Iran`s participation in reconstruction projects

Tehran, Dec 2, IRNA -- Member of Iraq`s Governing Council Ahmad Chalabi here Tuesday said Baghdad welcomes Iran`s participation in reconstruction of the war-torn Iraq. In a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of Economic Affairs, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, he called for expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries. Referring to approval of new foreign investment, banking and trade laws and regulations in his country, he stressed that appropriate ground has been paved for activities of the Iranian economic and trade agencies in his country. Stressing on supply of Iranian oil and gas to Iraq, he voiced Iraq`s readiness to lay Basra-Abadan pipelines in the near future. Chalabi further announced his country`s readiness to import foodstuff, construction materials and pharmaceutical products from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Commenting on Iran`s great economic potentials, Adeli stressed on Iran`s willingness to participate in the Iraqi reconstruction projects. There is strong political will in Iran to help restore peace and stability in the war-torn Iraq, he said adding that representatives from different Iranian ministries will be dispatched to Iraq in order to study the future plans for bilateral cooperation in different areas. Chalabi, heading a delegation, arrived in Qasr-e Shirin, western Iran, Sunday through the international Khosravi border, to hold talks with Iranian authorities. 217/211 End
